Northlight Psychology

Family Services

As a parent, you want the best for your children and to see them flourish at home and school or nursery. However, sometimes children can experience challenges which make it harder for them at school or nursery.

It’s not always easy to find and access help to understand and support your child’s needs. There can often be a long wait for specialist support work with you and your child’s teachers, which can be frustrating for families.

Northlight Psychology provides a family service that enables parents and carers to access educational psychologist expertise to support their child in their education journey without long waiting times.

How It Works

Every parent wants their child to feel happy and confident at school. But when children struggle with learning, behaviour, or emotions, it can be hard to know what’s really going on or how best to help. Families often tell us they feel stuck, worried about their child, frustrated by long waiting lists, and unsure what support is available.

Northlight Psychology gives you quick access to clearer understanding of your child’s needs and practical help. We work with you and your child’s school to understand their needs, highlight their strengths, and suggest strategies that make a real difference day to day. Our aim is simple: to take away some of the uncertainty and give you a clear plan for moving forward so your child can thrive.

Frequently Asked Questions

No! We can do home visits where appropriate.

If you want to book an educational psychologist to work with your child, we need the Family Agreement signing and returning to us, the payment for your chosen package, and a mutually free date for you and an educational psychologist.

Each package is completed with the final report and parental (and school) feedback session. Further work would need to be commissioned separately at a later date.

Educational psychologists do not provide diagnoses for conditions such as autism and ADHD. There are pathways that can be accessed though the NHS or specialist private providers for diagnosing these conditions.

Most educational psychologists do not diagnose dyslexia, but they can identify needs around reading and writing and suggest support for children with literacy difficulties.

The title ‘Educational Psychologist’ can only be used by a suitably qualified individual who is registered to practice with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). There is a public register which can be accessed through the HCPC that can be used to find qualified and registered Educational Psychologists.

Any Educational Psychologists working with Northlight Psychology are suitably qualified and registered with the HCPC.

All costs are included in the package fee.

Reports will be completed and shared with families (and schools where agreed to by families) within 28 days of the final visit/assessment with a child.

The free 20 minute initial consultation call will help us gain an initial picture of your concerns and your child’s needs. We can advise what package may be suitable depending on these needs and your budget. Book your free consultation call here.
